Selden is a hamlet in the town of Brookhaven. Selden is largely a middle class family community with a diverse range of businesses, types of residences and residents themselves. Many residents of Selden are new immigrants to the United States.
Selden's activities, shopping and dining experiences are typical for a middle class community, but do offer some outstanding options. Selden has several shopping centers along Route 25. Suffolk County Community College's Ammerman branch is located in Selden.
Selden has a rich history, particularly involving the Revolutionary War. Captain Daniel Roe was an early resident and chronicled both the French and Indian War and the Revolutionary War as a Captain. Telescope Hill in Selden was the site from which the German U-Boat was sighted and later captured during World War II.
